What Is Going On With The Musk-Zuckerberg Cage Match?
Everything You Need To Know About The Zuck-Musk Fight.
Welcome back to The Random Thought of the Week. There hasn’t been a post all summer due to a (much-needed) summer hiatus. But we’re back! Today, we are going to be breaking down everything you need to know about the alleged cage fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg.
Everything You Need To Know
In recent months, there has been growing speculation over an alleged UFC-style cage match between tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg. The idea was first proposed by Musk after he tweeted “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol”. Ignoring the fact that a grown man used the term “lol”, Elon’s post was in response to the launch of Twitter’s (X’s?) rival platform, Threads.
While many people saw this as another man-child post from Musk, Zuckerberg responded on Instagram with, “send me location”. Commence the general public starting to lose their minds.
UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) President Dana White chimed in shortly after, saying he would help organize the cage match (while he was sporting a Zuckerberg Vs Musk T-shirt that could be purchased on the UFC website).
As the hype continued to build, both men were spotted getting into shape and training with former UFC fighters. Weeks passed and the euphoria around the fight started to die down.
In early August, however, Musk suggested that the fight would be streamed on X (or whatever Elon has renamed it to these days). Zuck punched back, asking for a “more reliable platform” to stream it on. I’m sure we must all be thinking back to world-class moron Ron Desantis’s presidential campaign announcement on Twitter (for those of you that don’t know, Twitter hosted a live stream that was supposed to feature Desantis announcing his bid, but Twitter’s live stream was horrendous - numerous hot mikes and stream crashes). Zuck offered his streaming services, and even got the Italian Government to agree to an “epic location”.
In recent days, Musk has appeared to be getting cold feet. Musk said that the date is “still in flux” due to a possible upper back surgery. Zuck responded by saying that, “it’s time to move on,” and, “if he (Musk) ever agrees on an actual date, you’ll hear it from me.”
Keep in mind, this is all while they have growing beef over Zuck’s new platform Threads, which racked up 100 million users in the first five days (on that fifth day, Elon suggested they have a contest to measure the size of their genitals).
If The Fight Did Happen
If the fight did happen, it would be one of the biggest fights in history. Dana White said that if UFC hosted the event, the pay-per-view would cost $100. The current largest-grossing fight is Conor McGregor Vs Floyd Mayweather (2017), which grossed over $600 million. White said that the Zuck-Musk fight would probably triple that, coming close to the two billion dollar mark, easily making it the biggest fight in the history of the world. That’s not counting the gambling revenue.
DraftKings’ hypothetical settings odds”
-160 for Zuckerberg to win (you need to bet $160 to get $100)
+140 for Elon to win (you bet $100 and win $140)
Another thing we have to think about is the size and age of the fighters. Musk is 6’1” and has claimed that he “almost never works out”. Zuck is 5 '7'' and has won multiple metals in a Jiu-Jitsu tournament. Zuck is 39 while Elon is 51 years old. If this isn’t a midlife crisis, I don’t know what is. Take all that how you will, my money will still be on “the Zuck”.
Ultimately, will the fight happen? Probably not, but the world can hope.
I hope you enjoyed this week’s random thoughts. If you did, please share and send it to whoever might find this interesting. Hope you are all doing well.
All the best,
H.R. Berry
